We’re a team of editors and food writers with years of experience. We’ve been published online and in print, on blogs and websites, in newspapers and magazines, locally and nationally. Heck, we’ve even been published in English and Spanish. We’ve trained college interns and mentored new writers. And we’re here to tell you, launching a career as a food writer is possible. Even in today’s competitive market, new food writers are breaking through. With the right focus and effort, you can be a successful food writer. What do we mean by successful? Simply, getting paid to share your opinions and expertise.
Over the years, we’ve seen dozens of talented young and new writers make rookie mistakes that held them back. We’ve also seen other inexperienced writers shoot to success. The difference between them wasn’t that one was more skilled than the other or that one knew more about food than the other. The difference was the focus on writing.
For every one writer that we saw that focused on writing and storytelling, we saw a dozen more focus on SEO and bounce rates. Guess which one succeeded?
The food world is huge … and there’s room for more writers. We’re here to help you be one of them.
We publish two articles every week. The articles we publish on Mondays have a writing focus, like how to write a headline, how to expand your vocabulary, where to find ideas to write about. On Thursdays, the articles are more technical in nature. You’ll find articles such as food styling basics, how to create a content calendar, and when and where to post on social media for success as a food writer.
We have several online courses planned for 2021. The first is Grow Your Blog, A Month-by-Month Action Plan for Food Writers. It’s a detailed blueprint for new food writers.
We also have two books planned for this year. The first is The Food Writer’s Style Guide, A Resource for Food Writers, Editors, Bloggers, and Critics. The Style Guide covers the correct spelling and usage of food terms, food company names and trademarks, punctuation basics, and much more. The second planned release is The Food Writer’s Thesaurus, A Guide to Words That Describe the Taste, Smell, Texture, Temperature, and Sound of Food.
Early in 2022, we’ll release Writing Delicious, A Guide for Beginning Food Writers.
Each book launch will also have a series of live classes to accompany it. Eventually, those live classes will become taped webinars that will be available on demand. And there will be lots of free mini-webinars, guides, and workbooks available throughout the year.
We have lots planned for 2021. All of it designed to help you become a successful food writer. We hope you’ll join us.
